Below is the framework from the Partnership for 21st Century Learning.  Park View Prep received written permission to use the framework in October of 2013.

The 21st Century Skills, or Learning and Innovation Skills, are "increasingly are being recognized as the skills that separate students who are prepared for increasingly complex life and work environments in the 21st century, and those who are not." (from p21.org)

These skills are commonly known in education as the 4 Cs: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Communication, and Collaboration.

Park View supports the application of these skills through:
1.  Thinking Maps- Graphic organizers used for different thought processes
2.  Cooperative Learning- Model to practice skills to work with others
3.  Creativity Fridays- One hour each week for students to work on projects which include media, technology, careers curriculum, the arts (fine, performing, music, etc.) or other activities which foster creativity 

Park View has many approaches to instilling Life and Career Skills.  These skills include not only skills for the workplace (flexibility, adaptability, initiative, accountability) but also social-emotional skills.  Below are some ways our school supports the growth of our students in this area:

1.  Cooperative Learning- builds social skills, communication skills, decision making, and helps students understand their roles in projects and assignments when working with others.
2.  Win-Win Discipline- helps students be reflective, self accountable, and understand how to gain learned responsibility from their choices.
3.  PBIS- explicitly teaches and reinforces appropriate actions and interactions with others. 

Park View Prep ensures our students have exposure and practice with Information, Media, and Technology Skills.  These skills include the knowledge to seek and synthesize information as needed, create and use media effectively and ethically, and utilize technology to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, and create as needed.  We have the following supports and infrastructure to give our kids these all important skills for the 21st Century:

Kindergarten- iPads are introduced to our kids at this level, with a focus on basic functions and the use of applications to obtain literacy

1st Grade- Each classroom has a center with iPads and another with Chromebooks.  Students continue to work with apps and begin to explore alternative operating systems.

2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade- 1:1 Chromebooks for students to to create Google Slides presentations, share Google Docs, use Google Drawings, and begin using Google Classroom as a means to submit assignments.  1:4 iPad ratio for students to begin using the iMovie app 

6th Grade- 1:1 Chromebooks for students to continue refining their skills with Google apps and researching various topics.
